Course description

Who should attend?

This course is for people who want to learn about the administration of oxygen and/or analgesic gas. This could be:

  • Healthcare professionals
  • Dental nurses
  • Those who need access to oxygen or fast pain relief in cases of emergency, for example, sports coaches, offshore first aiders, or workers in hazardous environments (such as those who work with cyanide).

Entry requirements

Candidates must hold a valid first aid certificate that incudes CPR.

Delegates must be aged 18 or older to attend this course.

Candidates also need a basic command of English (defined as Level 2). While we are often able to provide support to people who do not have English as a first language, our ability to do so is limited by the time available and the number of people who require assistance. We may be able to make special arrangements if requested in advance. Please contact us if you need any guidance.

Course duration

Half day.

Topics covered

This course covers the skills and equipment which can assist with basic resuscitation.

Course content:

  • Administration of analgesic gas
  • Administration of oxygen
  • Preparation of cylinders
  • Resuscitation equipment*
  • Safety and storage of cylinders

*We’ve started bringing rescue breaths back into our training.

Assessment and certification

Assessment

Continuous assessment by the trainer.

Certification

Candidates receive a St John Ambulance attendance certificate.
