St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response & Nighttime Economy) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, NHS Cadets and Young Responders programmes). There is also a buoyant social enterprise network which delivers first aid training and supplies medical consumables to businesses and consumers.
Job Summary
Join our team as a Finance Business Partner (Clinical Operations) and play a vital role in shaping the financial strategy of one of the UK’s leading healthcare charities. In this pivotal role, you will be the first point of contact for financial planning, performance analysis, and forecasting within our Clinical Operations teams, providing insightful and high-quality business support to influence key strategic decisions. Working closely with the Senior Finance Business Partner and the wider team, you’ll contribute to the delivery of our long-term financial planning, including our annual three-year budgeting process. As a key member of the Financial Planning and Insight team, you’ll engage regularly with stakeholders to critically review and challenge performance, ensuring alignment with St John’s strategic operational goals.
About You
- Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Extensive experience managing end-to-end management accounting processes, including accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet entries
- Proficient in using SUN, Proactis, or similar financial systems.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality business and financial analysis, including scenario planning and insight into business drivers.
- Experienced in supporting the full annual and three-year budgeting process aligned to strategic business plans.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of managing risk and delivering cost savings and efficiencies.
About the Role
- Provide effective finance business partnering and high-quality financial insights to Budget Holders, Senior Management, Executive Teams, and Trustees.
- Collaborate with the Management Accounts team to ensure accurate income recognition, cost allocation, and timely production of management accounts.
- Lead on budgeting and forecasting activities, offering clear financial commentary and working independently under pressure.
- Offer technical accounting advice, respond to financial queries, and support transactional accuracy and analysis.
- Review, improve, and implement financial processes and controls within your remit to drive efficiency and compliance.
- Deliver detailed financial and business analysis to support strategic decision-making and service improvements across the organisation.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting, forecasting, KPI monitoring, and customer experience through simplified processes and better use of technology.
- Educate and support stakeholders and finance colleagues by promoting sound accounting principles and identifying risks, efficiencies, and cost-saving opportunities.
