St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, and Young Responders programmes). 

Job Summary 

The role holder will play a key role in the design, delivery and maintenance of data pipelines from our operational systems into our data lake to support the delivery of analytics and insights across the organisation. They will contribute at both a strategic and tactical level developing our data lake, ensuring there is one single version of the truth across SJA, designing and building data pipelines from across our full tech stack. They will be a point of contact on change programmes, ensuring the analytical needs of the organisation are represented as part of new technology implementations and upgrades.

They will communicate with a range of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, interpreting business requirements into fit for purpose specifications to develop from.
 

About You 

You will be educated  to GCSE level or equivalent (Grade C / 4) including Maths & English, minimum 5 and have a Recognised certification in a technical data capability such as SQL. You will have experience working within a Microsoft Azure environment and Experience with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, extracting information and identifying linkages across disparate data sets and familiar with PaaS database systems (Synapse, Data Factory).

About the Role 

  • Collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to design data pipelines from our operational source systems into our Microsoft Fabric data lake
  • Use technologies including SQL and Microsoft Azure to develop these data pipelines, ensuring they are built in accordance with the specification
  • Liaise with our Testing team to ensure a clear audit trail of testing is evident at all stages through the development process
  • Own the migration of legacy data pipelines from within our current data infrastructure to the data lake, ensuring we can decommission redundant pipelines
  • Support the continuous improvement of data pipelines across the organisation
