Our museum

Outside view of St John's Gate

The Museum and Library of the Order of St John is housed in the 16th century gatehouse, St John's Gate, that formed the southern entrance to a Priory covering 10-acres of Clerkenwell in medieval times.

Visit us

Visit the museum to find out about the history of St John Ambulance and the Order of St John. Three galleries explore the medical, religious and military roles of the Hospitiallers; the history of St John's Gate itself and of St John Ambulance.

Important notice:

The Museum is closed on Bank Holiday weekends; Saturday to Monday  23 -25 August 2008.

The Priory church and the Norman crypt are closed from January 2008 to June 2008 due to building work. The Tudor gatehouse and the galleries continue to be open for visitors.
