About Us

St John Ambulance is the nation’s leading first aid charity. Every year, 400,000 people learn how to save a life through our training programmes, including hundreds of thousands of young people. First aid is such a simple skill, but it has an incredible impact.

We provide a wide range of products and services to the community such as our workplace and community training, first aid support at events and our vital work with the emergency services with our ambulance operations. We generate around £100m per annum which we reinvest in delivering and campaigning for better access to first aid for everyone.

We are also passionate about campaigning to raise awareness of first aid so that everyone has access to lifesaving knowledge through our award-winning ad campaigns such as "The Chokeables" which is credited with saving at least 54 babies lives and recently won the Charity Film of the Year Award 2017.

About the Role

The role of Facilities Maintenance Operative is a key member of the National Facilities team ensuring that our buildings are of a high standard of presentation, fit for purpose, are safe and legally compliant, and issues are addressed promptly to enable our core business functions to remain operational. You will be responsible for carrying out planned, reactive and corrective building maintenance and any activities associated with the upkeep of our buildings and property.

Operating under broad guidance from the regional Facilities team, you will be responsible for planning your own workload and making sure that you deliver a quick, efficient and high quality service, covering a number of buildings with a region. This role interacts across multiple levels of stakeholders throughout the organisation and will be required to adhere to regulatory and statutory compliance including Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and Care Quality Commission (CQC) governance.

The successful applicant will essentially have experience of carrying out maintenance and repairs, and be able to prioritise and plan competently, with little direction, and able to interact in a professional and courteous manner.
