St John Ambulance is the nation’s leading first aid charity. Every year, 400,000 people learn how to save a life through our training programmes, including hundreds of thousands of young people. First aid is such a simple skill, but it has an incredible impact. We want everyone to learn it, so that they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
To achieve this, we provide a wide range of products and services to the community such as our workplace and community training, first aid support at events and our vital work with the emergency services with our ambulance operations. We generate around £100m per annum which we reinvest in delivering and campaigning for better access to first aid for everyone. By doing this, we can give people access to important skills that they wouldn’t otherwise get the chance to learn.
We are also passionate about campaigning to raise awareness of first aid so that everyone has access to life saving knowledge through our award-winning ad campaigns such as "The Chokeables" which is credited with saving at least 54 babies lives and recently won the Charity Film of the Year Award 2017.
About the Role - Homeless Service Staff Coordinator
The Homeless Service aims to deliver a specialised, accessible, nurse-led primary health care, first aid and training service to homeless and vulnerably housed people.
We are looking to recruit a Coordinator for the Brighton Homeless Service to be responsible for the overall organisation of the services delivered to homeless and vulnerably housed clients. The focus will be on recruiting, supporting and managing a team of HCP-led volunteers to carry out the services.
Key responsibilities will include the coordination and delivery of primary health care, podiatry, first aid, support and advocacy services for homeless and vulnerably housed clients from the Mobile Treatment Centre and other venues across Brighton and Hove. The post holder will be proactive in identifying unmet local primary health care needs of the client group and will contribute to the development of proposals to address these. The post holder will organise and deliver training for volunteers to ensure competency and best practice and compliance with St John Ambulance policies and standards, and provide ongoing support and coordination for the team. They will be responsible for maintaining good communication with Homeless Service volunteers including the organisation of regular volunteer meetings and be responsible for producing and circulating regular newsletters for all Homeless service volunteers and staff attached to the Brighton Homeless service.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in the voluntary sector and working with vulnerable and/or marginalised people.
Part time: 20 hours per week
Salary: Band 6 £19,400 - £25,500 pro rata
