Head of Legal & Company Secretary
About the Role
As Head of Legal & Company Secretary at St John Ambulance and the Priory of St John and the Islands, you will lead a successful legal team to develop a business partnering approach and further integrate our legal services into the organisation. This will include leading the organisation’s Information Governance function and acting as our Data Protection Officer, to ensure compliance, provide guidance and work closely with colleagues across the organisation to advise on best practice.
In this key role, you will have direct responsibility for ensuring compliance with company and charity law and will lead on all legal risk matters for the Charity as well as being the legal subject matter expert for the organisation to protect, represent and advise Trustees and the Executive team on such matters. You will also act as the lead legal advisor to St John Trustees and Executives and act as the executives’ business partner to help improve the effectiveness of their Directorates, including achieving best value and outcome from internal and external legal partners.
You must have a strong legal background to be successful in this role. As the subject matter expert for all legal matters you will ideally have gained experience as a Company Secretary, however, you must have lead a successful legal department. You will be an excellent communicator with strong business partnering skills and will provide an innovative approach to further integrating legal services into St John’s directorates. As you will act as our Data Protection Officer, you will also be experienced with Data Protection and GDPR regulations.
St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, providing first aid, keeping people safe at events and working alongside the NHS in response to 999 calls. Much of our front-line delivery is provided by our dedicated and highly-trained volunteers.
