Grand National first aid support
More than 200 St John volunteers were on hand recently at the
worlds biggest and most watched horse racing event, the Grand
National, at Aintree.
Watched by approximately 600 million people
worldwide, volunteers were on duty throughout the
full three-day event, providing cover to the 150,000 or
race-goers
Supported by the British Red Cross first aiders treated over 200
injuries ranging from headaches and blisters to more serious heart
conditions and asthma attacks. The team on Grand National day
consisted of 150 first aid trained personnel, five doctors,
four paramedics, eitht nurses, five ambulances and three
first aid posts.
