First aid at football violence
St John Ambulance first aiders provided
support at last weeks Rangers v's St Petersburg match in Manchester
after violence erupted amongst fans.
A hundred volunteers were on duty at the Manchester City
football stadium, 50 in the actual stadium and 50 providing support
at two of the five screens showing the match outside.
Most treatments were for alcohol related injuries.

Three ambulances were also working with the Northwest Ambulance
Service (NWAS) but were withdrawn when the situation became
dangerous.
Leslie Peart, Assistant Commissioner Operations said: 'Our
volunteers provided much needed medical care and worked extremely
well in partnership with the NWAS. Most treatments were for
alcohol related injuries.'
