St John Ambulance reclaims its spot on the
TARDIS
The time lord, Doctor
Who, is gracing our screens again for another series, and
to the delight of the charity, so too is the former St John
Ambulance logo.
As part of a programme revamp, the previous St
John Ambulance logo has been given pride of place on the
TARDIS.
Absent for over 40 years, the logo initially
appeared when the programme launched in 1963, with William Hartnell
playing the Doctor. It was also displayed in a number of Dr Who
films in the 1960s before disappearing altogether. It has
recently reappeared with the new reincarnation of the Doctor played
by Matt Smith.
We’re delighted that the St John Ambulance logo is back on the TARDIS and hope it reminds people to learn first aid...
Sue Killen
CEO St John Ambulance, NHQ
Pamela Willis, Curator at the Museum of the Order of St John,
explained why the logo was on police boxes in the first place:
'The police were all trained in first aid by the St John
Ambulance Association, and police boxes all had the
Association badge on them to show that trained help and first aid
equipment was available.’
St John Ambulance has since changed its logo
although it still continues to train police forces
around the country to equip them with life saving skills.
Sue Killen, CEO at St John Ambulance, said:
‘We’re delighted that the St John Ambulance logo is back on the
TARDIS and hope it reminds people to learn first
aid so that they can be the difference
between a life lost and life saved.’
