Summer Solstice
Dedicated volunteers from Wiltshire provided overnight first aid
support this weekend at the popular Summer Solstice event at
Stonehenge.
This year Wiltshire provided its biggest ever resource
committment to the Summer Solstice, with 24 volunteers, three
Crusader ambulances, two 4x4 ambulances, one command and control
unit, one first aid unit and one Cobra support truck.
Des Young has been providing first aid cover with St John
Ambulance at the Summer Solstice for the last ten years and helped
treat the 71 casualties over the event.
'This is our biggest duty of the year, with over 30,000 people turning out and we had to pull in as much support as possible.

He was in in charge of the first aid support this year and
has been attending planning meetings with English Heritage since
October last year. He said: 'This is our biggest duty of the year,
with over 30,000 people turning out and we had to
pull in as much support as possible. I'm particularly grateful to
the military at Airfield Camp Netheravon, for example, for lending
us two large army ridge tents which we will be setting up as field
hospitals.'
Volunteers were on site from Friday evening to Saturday
afternoon and were supported by an A and E consultant, a doctor,
two nurses and two healthcare support workers all funded by the
local PCT.
