Lily Madeline Wood
Lily Madeline Wood, 15, Salford, was awarded the Life
Saving Medal in Bronze for conspicuous bravery displayed
at Salford on 28 March 1907.
A baby was wandering on some electric lines when a car
approached. The driver applied his brakes but the car could not
have stopped before striking the child. However, Lily rushed
forward and, at the risk of her own life, snatched the baby from
the front of the car, which travelled some distance further and
pushed against her as she stepped back with the child in her
arms.
