Bob Johnson, 60
Committed Giving Officer, Fundraising
'I have worked for St John Ambulance for
13 years. After working for the Post Office for 25 years I was made
redundant as a result of reorganisation. The Post Office had used
St John Ambulance for its first aid needs and I was impressed by
the way they were integrated into our office.
My role is to generate regular donations from donors, especially
members of the Order of St John, by encouraging them to set up a
bank standing order to make regular donations.

Committed Giving Officer
I greatly enjoy working with the donors using customer care
skills. I also enjoy all aspects of change, because we are
constantly reviewing what we do and the way we do
it. And there are always new developments in the way that charities
work and the government rules about tax and donations. We
are constantly looking to build on success
and improve on last year's results. We never stand
still, there are always opportunities to develop
something new, something different, something better.
I am pleased at the way I have been able to develop my job
over the years, becoming more skilled and learning new
techniques. The job I do is almost unrecognisable
from when I started. I have had a massive freedom to
contribute to the way the job is done.
There are huge opportunities to develop and use
your own skills in whatever team you may find yourself.'
