Centrally organised training

It is hard to capture in just a few pages all the different things that members at Bishopston can do. Bishopston is just one unit in Avon and members at Bishopston can actually do all the activities organised centrally for members in Avon, especially any of the County training courses. We also go on visits occasionally to see things of interest like Southmead Fire Station and the Police helicopter and airfield fire engines at Filton Airfield. We also work with other youth organisations such as Guiding and Scouting.

We put a lot of effort into social activities celebrating as many festivals and members’ birthdays as possible. Some of our members joined St John Ambulance as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in order to complete the service or skills element. We take our ambulance to show others, or invite them to our headquarters.  The division also does a number of fundraising activities. This is a good opportunity for non-uniformed members who like to help St John Ambulance, but don’t want to (or are unable to) do first aid.

We are always keen to welcome new volunteers from Bristol and surrounding areas. If you are interested, e-mail the Avon Recruitment Team saying you would like to join Bishopston St John Ambulance Division.

Sue [Superintendent at Bishopston] encourages us to run a training evening for the other members, so we do all sorts of things.
