First aid

Members practicing first aid

First aid is literally a skill that can save somebody’s life. All volunteers with St John Ambulance need to at least have an awareness of first aid, with most having it as their main qualification. It is also a starting point for other activities such as becoming a trainer or learning ambulance skills. No prior first aid knowledge is required as all the necessary training will be provided by St John Ambulance, but if you already have had some training, all the better. Health care professionals are also most welcome.

Like all skills, first aid knowledge can fad with time, which can be prevented by practicing regularly. It also makes it more instinctive so it is much easier if you come across somebody such as a friend of family member that has injured themselves or has suddenly been taken ill.

We also update are skills when new methods or techniques are developed. This means we are always as good as we can be and we aren’t waiting until we next take out first aid certificate.

We are always keen to welcome new volunteers from Bristol and surrounding areas. If you are interested, e-mail the Avon Recruitment Team saying you would like to join Bishopston St John Ambulance Division.
