Scenarios

Members practicing first aid

Not all the training is ‘in the classroom’. Even though we try and make out training sessions as practical as possible, we also go to different locations to recreate mock incidents called scenarios. This means we get to use our skills in a situation that is much nearer to real life. We also use props and make up to make it more realistic, but still a safe training environment where if you make a mistake, nobody dies.

We have practiced at the Memorial Stadium without the sports fans in the way. We have recreated a small car accident in a school car park and a dodgy garge in somebody’s back garden. We have also used members’ homes as well as a university hall of residence. Scenarios are a lot of fun and usually an opportunity to meet / ‘treat’ members from other units.

We are always keen to welcome new volunteers from Bristol and surrounding areas. If you are interested, e-mail the Avon Recruitment Team saying you would like to join Bishopston St John Ambulance Division.

It looked so real with the blood coming out of Becky’s arm and the bit of glass sticking out.
