Reading District appoint new leaders

Reading division have been celebrating as four of it's senior Cadets successfully passed their Cadet leadership 1 course held at Streatley.

The intensive course builds on leadership skills picked up in the division and trains cadets not only in St John specific skills, but includes a host of transferable skills like effective communication, leadership and problem solving.

The course allows cadets to become more actively involved in the running of St John Ambulance, ensuring thats the future of the charity in the Reading community is secure. The Cadets who attended the course were drawn from all around the divsions area, including youngsters from Southcote, Emmer Green, Caversham and Tilehurst.

The course also offers previous alumni the chance to come and assist in the delivery of the course material.

Sam Bromley, Chloe Gunn, Chloe Parker and Becky Maddocks who are all aged between 15 and 16 were presented with their certificates by the current County Commissioner Youth, Sharon Johnson, at a passing out parade attended by divisional leaders and parents alike. Alice Green and Stephen Pithers who are both 17 attended the course in 2006 and returned this year as members of the training team.

All four Cadets have now been confirmed as Cadet Corporals in the division and are already putting their new skills to good use by planning next years training programme and working towards the rank of Cadet Sergeant.
