Mayor has a cuppa
Reading division held a tea
party event in Tilehurst as part of the national
fundraising campaign Big tea cosy.
The emphasis of the day was not only to raise
funds essential for the ongoing work of the division but
to raise awareness of the importance of first aid
training in the community.
Many people suffer needlessly both in the borough and nationally
due to bystanders with a lack of any first aid knowledge.
Councillor Chris Maskell, The Right Worshipful Mayor of Reading,
was on hand to open the day. The Mayor was taken through
basic life saving techniques and remarked he could
see the importance of as many people as possible having basic first
aid skills. The event raised £60 to aid the work
of the division.
St John Ambulance has been working continually in the Reading
community since 1893. There are currently two adult divisions
and a Cadet division who are always looking for new volunteers.
