Reading Cadets help charity for the blind

RDQ Cadets at Reading Talking Newspaper

A group of Cadets from Reading have been getting involved in the community thanks to a newly formed relationship with The Reading Talking Newspaper for the Blind.

Rota of volunteers

The Cadets have joined a rota of volunteers as part of the copying team and are helping to erase incoming tapes, sort any notes from listeners and copy, check and pack new tapes.

This is a fantastic way for cadets to gain insight into services in the community while at the same time supoport the great work of well respected local charity.

Daniel Williams
Divisional Officer, Reading District Cadets

The Reading Talking Newspaper has been operating in Reading since the mid 1970's and today provides around 200 local residents suffering from blindness or visual impairment with the chance to keep up to date with local events by producing a weekly recording of news featured in the press. Tapes are delivered directly to listeners free of charge and over the years the service has become invaluable to them.

Daniel Williams, Divisional Officer for Reading District's Cadets said: 'This is a fantastic way for cadets to gain an insight into services in the community while at the same time support the great work of an established and well respected local charity. Hopefully the arrangement will last for a long time to come'.
