Royal Cornwall Show 2011
The Royal Cornwall Show Ground in
Wadebridge will once again be filled with thousands of visitors and
competitors for the famous County Show. St John Ambulance's
volunteers will be on hand to provide care throughout the
event.
Volunteers ready to be the difference
Over 100 volunteer personnel will be in place
to be the difference, making sure that first aid treatment is
available to anyone who needs it. The main on site medical centre
will be equipped with key lifesaving equipment and staff to cater
for the mix of injuries sustained during the event.
Integrated service deployed
Around the grounds St John Ambulance will be deploying response
cars, First aiders and Health Care
Professionals all of whom will be on hand to react as
swiftly and efficiently as possible. Specialist
crewed ambulances will also be ready to transport anyone needing
further treatment to hospital.
St John Ambulance's experienced personnel will be in Cornwall
from all over the country to make sure that first aid treatment is
available to everyone who needs it. Injuries
ranging from blisters and minor wounds to sprains and strains will
be treated, helping crowds to continue viewing this annual
event.
Our LINKS members (Student Volunteers)
will be out in full force throughout the show, following extensive
training, experience and practice at other events.
Stefan Antoniuk, Commissioner of St John Ambulance in Cornwall,
said:
'We are delighted to be supporting the show team again this
year. St John Ambulance is determined to be the difference
between a life lost and a life saved, and that’s why we’re
here to ensure the safety of competitors and those who turn out to
support them.
'One of the most satisfying things is being able to help people
who are struggling with minor ailments or injuries to continue to
see the event as they had planned too.'
Tips for injury prevention
Throughout the event we will treat a number of people with very
basic injuries that require little help from us, but injuries that
people can help themselves with. Our top tips for an
excellent Royal Cornwall Show are:
- The weather conditions are planning to be
very warm throughout the show – Ensure that you have sun
lotion applied before leaving home, and that you have
enough to last the day. Hats are also excellent
for protection from extreme temperatures
- Being dehydrated and becoming faint is a
typical ailment that St John Ambulance deals with throughout the
event. Drink plenty of fluid – little and often is
the key
- Double check that you have all of
your own medication that you are going to need for the day
before leaving home. The St John Ambulance medical centre at the
event will not be able to give specific medication if you forget
yours
- Staff safe and have fun!
St John Ambulance will be at the event to look after you should
things go wrong – we always hope that they don’t!
First aid partners
St John Ambulance are pleased that during this event we work
closely with our partners The British Red Cross and the South
Western Ambulance Service to deliver a single medical and welfare
solution.
