Horse power boost for funds

Riders in Chatsworth Park

Supporters used horse power to raise more than £1,000 for the work of St John Ambulance in Derbyshire with a ride through Chatsworth Park, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.

More than 60 riders braved wind and rain to take part in the sponsored 12 mile ride through private grounds not normally open to the public.

Organiser Carolyn Pope, a member of the St John Ambulance schools training team, said: 'We all got wet, but it was great fun – and a real privilege to see some of the beautiful countryside that is usually out of bounds to riders.'

A total of £1,200 was raised by the event. Everyone taking part received a rosette and prizes were awarded to those who raised the most.
