Buxton plays host to Order of St John
Key figures from the historic Order of St John gathered in
Buxton for an annual service of thanksgiving for
the work of the Order and of St John Ambulance.
VIPs gathered at the church
Bishop Jack Nicholls, the Order’s national
Prelate, and Mr Willie Tucker, Lord
Lieutenant of Derbyshire were among VIPs who gathered at
the Parish Church of St John the Baptist for the event.
The service was led by the organisation’s county chaplain, the
Rev Jane Legh, wife of former high sheriff David
Legh. Those taking part included chair of council Dr
Cheryle Berry, county president Shirley
Shaw and county cadet of the year Emma
Musson.
The Order of St John is a major international charity, providing
first aid, health care and support services in over 40 countries
worldwide. Its charitable work is carried out by the St John Eye
Hospital Group in Jerusalem and St John Ambulance – which has 1,500
volunteers in Derbyshire alone.
