Training courses
All volunteers for the
uniformed activities have Induction training,
which includes the Manual handling principles course and the first
aid modules of primary survey, resuscitation of adults, children
and infants, treatment of the unconscious casualty, minor and
severe bleeding, choking and chest pains.
First aiders are trained in additional modules, which include
bone and joint injuries, head
injuries, seizures,
asthma and shock. Advanced first
aiders are trained in further modules as well including:
- casualty management outdoors
- severe allergic reactions
- casualty movement
- low blood sugar
- heat and cold extremes
- automated external defibrillation.
Patient transport attendants and emergency transport attendants
are taught all the skills necessary to transport people in
ambulances. Experienced members can also attend courses to
