The Fleet
St John Ambulance Chelmsford
combined division has a large fleet of ambulances, cars
and bicycles.
The fleet consists of:
- two fully equipped ambulances, used for
duties and providing support to the East of England Ambulance
service
- A support car used to transport members
to and from duties and providing a car for large events
- A mobile unit used at larger events
- rapid response bicycles for use on big
events such as half marathons, and used to get to patients quickly
and provide vital aid to them.

Crusader mark 5 - a dual purpose vehicle built by Oughtred
and Harrison (Facilities) ltd.

- based on Renault Master 2.4 Tdi Long Wheelbase van
- fully equipped as an accident and emergency ambulance
- can also be used as a mobile first aid unit

Crusader (HX03NDE)

Crusader 900 Mark 3 - a variable purpose vehicle built by ATT
Papworth based on the Renault Master.

- built to St John Ambulance national specification
- based on Renault Master 2.8 Tdi Long Wheelbase van
- used as an accident and emergency ambulance, first aid unit and
community minibus
- Mark 3 improvements include integrated electrically operated
wedge ramp, rear folding passenger seat and wheelchair
anchorage

First aid unit (AY04MXS)

A large purpose built first aid
unit in the Minimax range built by FAME Commercials
of Colchester based on the Citroen Relay chassis.

£9,000
- based on Citroen Relau 2.8 turbo diesel

This multipurpose support vehicle is a Vauxhall Zafira converted
by ATT Papworth.

- based on the Vauxhall Zafira 1.9 Turbo Diesel Design model
- used as small first aid unit, people carrier, response car,
training equipment transport and for general transport needs
- used as mobile radio link station to support cycle

St John Ambulance bicycles

The division has four St John Ambulance
bicycles. They are transported to events in a
purpose built trailer towed by the Companion support car.
The bicycles are mountain bicycles built to a
national St John Ambulance specification.
