Training

Members enjoying training sessions

University of Essex LINKS offers a full range of first aid courses giving you essential skills that could ultimately save a life.

Monday night meetings

Spinal trainingDuring term times all members of University of Essex LINKS are invited to a regular weekly training session every Monday night.

These sessions are informal, but tailored specifically for students. Everyone who attends leaves with a much better understanding of the basic skills required to administer first aid in any situation.

Courses

Demonstration of techniques on a fractures courseFor those members who join St John Ambulance, formal courses are made available to train students to assist with event cover. All members who wish to volunteer for duties will be trained to a minimal standard of "Essential Care Skills". As more experience is gained from treating patients on duties further courses can be added. These include the Health & Safety Executive recognised "First Aid at Work" course, through medical gas administration, and up to ambulance level courses.

I grabbed the closest thing I had to hand, which was a clean ironed tea towel, and tried to stop the bleeding.
