About us
Hampshire is one of the largest
counties in England. In 2010, we trained over
10,000 people in first aid; for work, at school,
in the home or simply because they wanted to help in an
emergency.
We run first aid courses for every need, as
well as health and safety and fire marshal training.
What we do
Our 1,100 volunteers provide
first aid cover at events across the
county so you are never far from a St John Ambulance trained
first aider.
You may see us at Fratton Park, St Mary's, the
Army Show or the New Forest Marathon. We also
provide bathing services for the community
and run local youth groups in
your community.
In 2010, our volunteers gave over
203,430 hours of community service, treating 2,774
patients. Fortunately they give their time for free but If we
paid them the national minimum wage, it would cost £1.2
million.
Our well-trained, qualified ambulance crews provide a professional patient
transport service to a full range of clients. We transport patients
locally, nationally or internationally, whether the trips are
scheduled or one off. We also support NHS Ambulance Services.
All the money raised through our first aid
training and contract transport work
helps to support our voluntary first aid
provision and youth work.
Young people
We have over 50 youth units,
providing opportunities for around 500 young people aged between
five and eighteen such as camping, adventures, social development
and first aid training. Our new youth programme has over 100
different subjects available and puts youth participation at the
heart of what we do.
Our resources
Our County Headquarters is in Winchester
and we have training centres across the
county from Lymington to Portsmouth and Southampton to Farnborough.
Our fleet of over 50 vehicles includes frontline,
bariatric and 4x4 ambulances, as well as command and control
vehicles and community support minibuses.
