First aid success
Two teams of first aiders from across the
Portsmouth area will be going on to regional finals after
winning the Hampshire finals.
Winning teams
The volunteers – all members of St John
Ambulance – won first place in the finals held at St Vincents
College, Gosport.
The first aiders are given a range of
scenarios and casualties to treat and are marked on the way they
assess and care for the patients.
They are a tribute to St John Ambulance

The winning teams
were:
- Cadet quiz – Mary Unwin, Paris Fox, Charlea
Fox and Elizabeth Gore (from Gosport)
- Cadets’ Emergency Care – Jordan Knight,
Sophie Tomkins Georgina Cullen (from Mayville High School)
Wendy McCormick, the Training Commissioner
for St John Ambulance Hampshire, said they all truly deserved their
first place; ‘The teams all worked really well together and coped
with the scenarios and questions we set.
‘They are a tribute to St John Ambulance and
proof that children and non-medical people can learn first aid and
put it to good use!’
