Cadet of the Year 2012
Sophie Bunn,16, from
Harpenden Cadets has been announced as Hertfordshire's Cadet of the
Year 2012.
Sophie will take over from Cadet of the Year 2012 in January to
represent Hertfordshire Youth at National Events such as St John
Day and the Young Achievers Ceremony.
Sophie will also enter into the National Cadet of the Year
Competition to compete with St John's Ambulance Cadets nationwide
for the opportunity to represent not only Hertfordshire, but
the whole of St John Ambulance's Youth sector.
Find out more about Sophie, and why she is looking forward to
being Cadet of the Year 2012.
Sophie, congratulations on being
appointed Cadet of the Year 2012. How do you feel?
I
am incredibly proud to have been selected as 2012 county Cadet of
the Year. It will give me a fantastic opportunity to become more
involved in St John Ambulance, and to represent Hertfordshire in
the National Cadet of the Year competition.
What are you most looking
forward to about your role as Cadet of the year?
I am
most looking forward to having the opportunity of lining the steps
of St Paul's Cathedral along with St John members from across the
country, in celebration of St John's day.
How long have you been a member
and why did you join?
This is my seventh year as
a cadet. I was introduced to St John Ambulance by a friend,
and I decided to join to develop my skills in first aid, meet new
people, and because I felt it would benefit me greatly in later
life.
Where have you used your first
aid skills in real life?
The first aid skills I have
learned have been of great use in everyday situations, such as
treating friends or family with minor cuts or burns. I have also
been able to treat casualties on duties, such as the Herts 10K run
and the Harpenden Carnival.
The scenarios we have taken part in at
our division have given me the confidence to know that I, along
with all the other cadets, would potentially be able to save
someone's life if put in those situations in real life.
What first aid duties do you
most like to attend?
I really like attending
duties such as the Herts 10K run and the Crabtree fireworks,
because you are able to go and enjoy great events whilst also
representing St John Ambulance in the local community as a
first aider.
What’s the best thing about
being a Cadet?
Being a St John Ambulance Cadet offers
completely unique opportunities. My favourite of which are the many
residential courses and trips, where you are able to develop
yourself as an individual, learn new skills, and meet
people with similar interests from across the
county.
