Open evening for new Badger Sett
Young people in the west of the island
are invited to an open evening that marks the start of a new St
John Ambulance Badger Sett.
The Peel Sett will meet on Thursday evenings at
the Age Concern Isle of Man, Ny Kiare Thieyn Day Centre, Derby
Road.
An open evening on Thursday 22nd September from 6pm to
7pm will allow young people and their parents to meet
leaders and other St John Ambulance volunteers and try their hand
at basic first aid skills - the cornerstone of
Badgers’ activities.
Badgers are the youngest members of St John Ambulance,
aged five to 10, and have fun while learning
life-saving skills. They work towards their
Super Badger Award.
Essential commitment from the Island's young people
Many young Badgers and Cadets (10-18) go on to be full adult
members of the Island’s leading first aid charity and provide
vital cover at events ranging from the TT and MGP
to Tynwald Day, agricultural shows and community events.
The Peel Sett is the fifth for young people based on the Island,
with others meeting at Douglas, Onchan, Laxey, and Ramsey.
Bill Castelow, County Staff Officer with St
John Ambulance, said: ‘If you're between five and 10 years old, you
can join Badgers, learn first aid and have fun. And when you reach
10 you can move on to become a Cadet. You’ll get the best first aid
training and a wide choice of other activities. You'll never be
stuck for something to do.’
