St John Ambulance Canterbury’s newly formed Cadet Division got off to a fantastic start as youngsters met up for the division’s first meeting on 21 September.

The re-formed division brings together youngsters aged 10 to 18 from across Canterbury and offers a safe and fun environment for learning first aid, socialising and building life skills and confidence.

Canterbury Councillor, Alan Baldock, attended the launch evening and said: ‘As a former St John Ambulance youth leader I was delighted to hear that the Canterbury Cadet Unit was re-opening.

‘The cadet programme gives young people the opportunity to join a wonderful organisation and in times like these, when budgets for council-funded youth projects are increasingly strained, groups like these are more valuable than ever. ‘

Officer in Charge, Sara Sheppard, said: ‘Our first meeting got off to a fantastic start and the enthusiasm shown by the youngsters means we’ve got some fun times ahead.

The Canterbury Cadets Unit will be meeting every Wednesday at 6.30pm at Canterbury Baptist Church Hall, Saint George’s Place, Canterbury, CT1 1UT.
