Pupils from New Road School, Chatham
receive First Aid Certificates
At the end of June, Kathrin Smallwood,
President of St John Ambulance Kent, was the special
guest at an assembly at New Road School,
Chatham, where she presented 31 pupils with
certificates in recognition of their achievements in first
aid.
Following the purchase by the school of a first aid training
pack from St John Ambulance, the pupils aged nine and 10 were able
to learn the importance of first aid
skills that could make the difference between a
life saved and a life lost.
During the assembly, the pupils demonstrated their new found
first aid skills to parents and Smallwood, who then joined the
children in their classroom to explain more about the importance of
a basic knowledge of first aid.
She said, 'The first aid demonstrations were fantastic and I am
delighted that in Chatham we now have a further 31 people
able to help others, should the need arise.
We want to encourage people
across every community, young and old alike, to
take up the challenge and learn some first aid
skills which could, one day, make a very real
difference to somebody.'
