Morrisons' shoppers across Kent boost charity’s funds by £9,000

Kind hearted Morrisons' customers across Kent took time out from their shopping to help raise a fantastic total of just over £9,000 for St John Ambulance.

The supermarket invited St John Ambulance volunteers to fundraise at stores across the country from 16 to 18 April 2010 to raise vital funds, to be used at a local level in order to continue the life saving work of the charity.

Overwhelmed by the support shoppers showed them in stores from Gravesend to Folkestone, it is hoped that last year's national total of over £90,000 will be beaten.

John Hougham, Commander for St John Ambulance Kent said: 'I would like to thank the generous and caring customers of Morrisons and the staff at their stores across Kent.  Our message is simple, each year there are up to 150,000 needless deaths where first aid could have made the difference between a life saved and a life lost.  This has to stop and the generosity of people who donated during the collections really does make a difference.'

'Helping charities like St John Ambulance is an important part of our work in local communities,' said Colin Middlemiss, Morrisons' Communications Controller. 'Our customers have once again shown their support and we’re delighted that they have raised so much money for this very worthwhile cause.'
