County Cadet of the Year celebrations
Hannah Heptinstall, from Penwortham and
Hutton Unit, is celebrating after being named as the St John
Ambulance Lancashire Cadet of the Year. Will
Fielding and Jocelyn Fogg were announced as Deputy Cadets of
the Year.
Ambassador for a year
Nine outstanding Cadets from across Lancashire competed in
the annual County Cadet of the Year competition, held in Burnley.
They were competing to be the face and ambassador
for the organisation over the next twelve months.
Cadets were assessed on a gruelling two day assessment on a
variety of skills including teamwork, time management, leadership
and presentation skills. This was followed by an intense
interview with a judging panel.
Hannah demonstrated tremendous dedication and enthusiasm over the course of the competition and we are delighted that she is our County Cadet of the Year. With Will and Jocelyn as supporting Deputy Cadets of the Year, I know the year ahead will be very successful.
Beryl Brighouse
County Commissioner of Youth
'I'm so excited to be the new County Cadet of the Year,' said
Heptinstall. 'I'm speechless. It was so unexpected – the other
Cadets were all really strong competitors, I honestly didn't think
I was in with a chance.'
Young people can be the difference
St John Ambulance has over 26,000 youth members and believes
every young person should have the opportunity to make a
difference in their community, to speak out on what
matters to them and to help others in need of support and
development. As County Cadet of the Year, Hannah will represent
all Cadets at a range of events over the next year
both in Lancashire and in London. In addition she will be
competing at the National Cadet of the
Year competition in February.
Beryl Brighouse, Commissioner of Youth at St John Ambulance
Lancashire said, 'At a time when young people are considered a
nuisance to society, our Cadets have once again shown this weekend
what an outstanding credit they are to the
organisation, their families and the local community.'
Brighthouse said it was a a great achievement
to be nominated to take part in the competition.
'Hannah demonstrated tremendous dedication and
enthusiasm over the course of the competition and we are
delighted that she is our County Cadet of the Year. With Will and
Jocelyn as supporting Deputy Cadets of the Year, I know the year
ahead will be very successful.'
