Lonsdale Cadets win at national
finals
St John Ambulance Lonsdale Cadets are
celebrating this week after being crowned National Winners at the
charities first aid quiz competition held in Croydon.
The team, Chris Harling, Will Fielding, Natasha Sutherland and
Rebecca Ferguson all from Morecambe, beat off stiff
competition from across the country to win the
category.
The final competition held in Croydon is the
culmination of a year-round competition designed to
celebrate the expertise of St John Ambulance
members and to demonstrate the high knowledge and standard of first
aid and care they can deliver.
Lonsdale Cadets have excelled themselves and have worked so hard over the past few months to prepare themselves for the competition. I am really proud of them.

Competing against ten other teams from across England, the
Cadets competition involved answering challenging questions about
first aid treatment, St John Ambulance history and general
knowledge with the team winning by a clear margin of eight
points.
Beryl Brighouse, Commissioner of Youth for St John Ambulance
Lancashire, said: ‘Our Cadets range from 11 to 18 and are all
qualified to provide life saving treatment. Lonsdale Cadets
have excelled themselves and have worked so hard over the past few
months to prepare themselves for the competition.
Throughout the different stages of the competition they have been
faced with some very challenging questions but their dedication has
shone through and they won their category by a clear margin, I am
really proud of them.'
'Our youth division of the organisation range from the age of 5
to 18 and these are the people of the future that have the
knowledge and confidence to make a difference in an emergency.'
Will Fielding said: ‘We're thrilled to have won, we've
worked really hard and it's great to see that hard work
pay off. We’ve also had fantastic support from our Cadet leaders,
so a special thank you goes to them.'
St John Ambulance Lancashire has thirteen Cadet Units located
across the county, they are all qualified to administer first aid
treatment to members of the public at a range of duties and events.
In several cases our Cadets have made the
difference between life and death.
