New unit rides into action
St John Ambulance in Leicestershire
and Rutland this week announced the launch of it's new 'Cycle
Response Unit', bringing first aid to event patrons in a faster,
more environmentally friendly way - accessing places others
can't.
Volunteers in the Cycle Response Unit will have
undertaken a thorough training programme
alongside other adult volunteers, as well as additional
IMBA
bike training. Their primary use will be at large
events such as the Leicester Marathon,
Diwali, Skyride,
and Gay Pride; events which cover large areas, and (owing to crowd
density) often make the movement of ambulances difficult.
Faster response
'The new unit allows our specially trained
volunteers to reach casualties faster than our foot
patrols. Meaning they can start treating people sooner, helping
them on the road to recovery,' said Jay Mistry, County Marketing
Officer.
We aim to get the unit training underway this Winter, so that by next Summer our volunteers will be ready to respond

Donation
The new unit was funded through generous donations from
local people and businesses in Leicestershire and
Rutland including a cheque for £3,722.74 from Michelle
Randon and Bev Strong of Champneys Health Spa
(Ashby-de-la-Zouch).
'We aim to get the unit training underway this winter, so that
by next summer our volunteers will be ready
to respond,' continued Jay.
