Cadets
Cadets is the name of our units which
cater specifically for young people aged 10-17. This is not only a
fantastic way to make new friends and
learn something new, but a great chance to
have a lot of fun!
Grand Prior Award
The Grand Prior award is the highest award a
Cadet can achieve. It represents a culmination of several
years of hard work and dedication, and is something that is
fantastic for a university applications or a
CV.
To achieve their Grand Prior award, Cadets must work through
four stages (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Grand Prior) completing a
range of subjects, as part of a varied and
exciting programme. Just some of the subjects studied
are:
- First aid

- Radio communication
- DIY
- Ambulance awareness
- Camping
- Off2Uni - preparing older Cadets for university life
- Photography
- Sports
- Music
Camp
Every year we take the Cadets away for a county Cadet camp,
giving them the opportunity to sleep under canvas, learn camping
skills, have fun and meet other
Cadets from across the county.
'Cadet of the Year'
Each year we run a 'Cadet of the Year' competition, looking for
a Cadet who is outstanding, and able to act as a
spokesperson for all our Cadets. Not only at local
St John Ambulance events, but also at local civic and even national
events, including the opportunity to compete for 'National Cadet of
the Year' - representing all Cadets in St John Ambulance.
Youth participation
We believe in a society where every young person has the
opportunity to make a real difference in their
community, to speak out on what matters to them
and to help others in need of support and
development.
Every year our youth participation team arrange a
youth ball and a range of youth participation days
over the course of the year, allowing our young people to do things
that interest them, as part of a fun
and exciting
programme.
