London (Prince of Wales) DistrictCycle Response Unit

Emergency service cycling is increasingly considered to be an effective method of delivering an emergency response in the police and ambulance services.

A key part of our operational capability

Cycle Response Unit

Along with our partners in the London Ambulance Service, we have a Cycle Response Unit that forms a key part of our operational capability.

In London our CRU was launched in 2004 and has been a huge success, having supported over 300 events across London.

The unit provides specially equipped mountain bicycles that carry advanced first aid equipment including an AED and medical gases, along with highly trained volunteer cyclists as part of the contribution of resources to support our event first aid work, and support to the London Ambulance Service.

Cycling is on the increase in the capital and at St John Ambulance, with our mixture of first aid and cycling skills, we are well placed to respond quickly to emergencies

The team meets on a weekly basis and provided support to over 80 events in the past year.
