Thousands of homeowners across the Capital have responded to a door-to-door fundraising campaign for London District and pledged their regular support.

Generous support

Since the start of the year, over 4,100 new supporters have signed up, creating a total of 15,000 regular supporters in the Greater London area.

A team of door-to-door fundraisers has been talking to people across the Barnet, Havering and Croydon area over recent weeks, asking them to support the leading first aid charity by making a regular donation to the organisation.

In turn, the fundraising team will move on to neighbouring boroughs in the coming weeks.

Thanks to their generous support we can continue our work locally and empower others to be the difference.

Len Bamber, CEO of St John Ambulance London (Prince of Wales's) District, said:

'We are delighted that the people of London are committed to helping us ensure that no one suffers for a lack of trained first aiders.

'First aid can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved and thanks to their generous support we can continue our work locally and empower others to be the difference.'

Door-to-door fundraising is one of a number of methods used by St John Ambulance to raise much needed funds to help provide life saving activities. The organisation carries out this type of fundraising by employing Wesser, a professional fundraising agency, to recruit supporters.

The fundraisers are all trained and clearly identifiable, carrying ID badges as well as authorised materials that explain the work of St John Ambulance locally and they will not collect cash or cheques.

As well as recruiting supporters, the team of fundraisers will be issuing residents with a free first aid guide providing advice on how to deal with common life threatening conditions so that if someone chokes, has a heart attack, stops breathing or cuts themselves, some useful information will be close at hand.
