First aiders prepare for Chinese New Year
celebrations
First aiders from St John Ambulance
London (Prince of Wales’s) District will be on duty at Chinese New
year celebrations later this month.
Welcoming the year of the Dragon
Dozens of volunteers will be providing
first aid cover on Sunday January 29 to make sure
that the Year of the Dragon is welcomed in
safety.
The new year celebrations will see thousands
of people enjoy a parade through central London
and stalls, live entertainment, food and a party atmosphere in
China Town, Trafalgar Square and Shaftesbury
Avenue.
About 60 St John Ambulance volunteers,
including Cadets, will be on duty with two
fully-crewed ambulances and six Cycle Response Units.
Playing a vital role in ensuring the safety of the event
The charity will work alongside the
London Ambulance Service throughout the event.
Ann Cable, Commissioner of St
John Ambulance London (Prince of Wales’s) District, said: “The
Chinese New Year celebrations transform the heart of the
capital every year and St John Ambulance plays a
vital role, keeping not only visitors safe and well, but
stallholders, acrobats and other performing artistes.
“This is always a very special
occasion, and one which attracts a large audience, so at
St John Ambulance we are doing all we can to ensure that
visitors and participants in the event can enjoy themselves
safely.”
