Hither Green Badger Sett-ing the standard
Hither Green Unit's Badger Sett has
emerged victorious in this year’s Badger Awards, scooping
two of the top prizes.
The annual competition is organised by St John
Ambulance nationally and enables individuals and Setts to be
put forward for particular praise.
Badger of the Year
Kyle Alexander was announced as this year’s
winner of the Roy Follett Badger of the Year.
Kyle, who has cerebral palsy, has been a
member of the organisation since he was five years old. He is
a much liked member of the Sett who has been actively involved in
the work of the unit. He has achieved all 15 of the subjects that
Badgers attempt to conquer during their time in the programme.
Mark Squirrell, Assistant Commissioner Youth,
said:
'Kyle is a genuine asset to his Sett and
thoroughly deserved to win this national award. There are a number
of very enthusiastic and energetic young people who form part of
our Badger and Cadet contingent and I am proud of the role they
play in their community.'
Caring Badger Setts Award
The Hither Green team also scooped the David
Nobbs award for Caring Badger Setts.
'I am enormously proud of the Hither Green
Badgers. They have worked really hard and thoroughly deserve this
award.
'We are a thriving youth organisation within
St John Ambulance – which many people still don’t know about – so
it’s great when we can honour our members for the work they do and
share with the community their accomplishments,' said
Squirrell.
