First aiders treat hundreds at Notting Hill Carnival
Hundreds of people were treated by St
John Ambulance volunteers at the Notting Hill Carnival.
Over the two days of the world-famous event,
681 people were treated and 86 people were taken to
hospital by St John Ambulance and the London Ambulance
Service.
Services Deployed
St John Ambulance deployed about 400
first aiders and 30 ambulances on Sunday and Monday, with
11 treatment centres set up around the carnival route.
Cycle Response Units, motorcycle responders,
doctors, nurses and medical professionals were also on duty on both
days.
Ann Cable, Commissioner of St
John Ambulance in London, said: ‘We have been involved with the
Notting Hill Carnival since it began in 1966 and we are proud to
have been involved again this year. Hundreds of our volunteers gave
up their time to make sure that they were the difference between
lives lost and lives saved by being on hand to provide first aid to
everyone who needed it.’
