Praise for first aiders at Wimbledon
St John Ambulance London (Prince of Wales’s)
District has received many letters and emails thanking our first
aiders for their dedications and care at Wimbledon.
A busy period
About 50 first aiders were deployed
each day during the Championships with a total of
1244 receiving first aid treatment and 23 being transported to
hospital.
Friendly, attentive and kind
Nikki Gibbon, a teacher from Cardiff, went to
Wimbledon with a party of school children and two colleagues, one
of whom was taken ill while watching a match on Court
Two.
She said: 'It was a stressful situation and I
can’t believe how fantastic everyone was. They were friendly,
attentive, kind and couldn’t have done more to help
us. Wimbledon is clearly the place to be if you are
unwell.'
Henry Cubbon, from Leicestershire, contacted
St John Ambulance after his brother received treatment at
Wimbledon.
He said: ‘My brother collapsed at the
ground with heart failure and was transferred by ambulance
to St George’s hospital where he has since been in intensive care.
Your people were quickly on the scene and gave lifesaving treatment
on the spot which re-started his heart.
There is no doubt that without your help,
my brother would have died. Fortunately he is now
recovering.'
