Volunteers prepare for another round at
Wimbledon
Volunteers from St John Ambulance London
(Prince of Wales's) District are preparing for a busy fortnight
providing first aid cover at Wimbledon.
On hand to be the difference
The Charity's trained first aiders will be on
hand to be the difference between lives lost and lives
saved by making sure that first aid treatment is
available to everyone who needs it.
Last year, St John Ambulance treated 1721
people during the course of the competition, with a further 24
transported to hospital. Since 1988 the Charity has treated
well over 35,000 people at the event.
Members from all over London will be involved,
and about 50 Volunteers will be present each day.
St John Ambulance London District will also deploy doctors, nurses
and an ambulance.
Advice for the hot weather
In case of hot weather during this year's
Championships, St John Ambulance has issued the following advice to
spectators:
Stay hydrated – if the
weather is hot, ensure you have water with you at all times.
Queuing at busy events can take time.
Protect yourself from the sun
– it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of the event and
neglect the risk from sunburn and sunstroke. Cover yourself up and
use a good sunblock.
Wear a hat – this will
provide extra protection against the sun.
