Saving Londoners' Lives
Saving Londoners’ Lives is a
partnership project to train teachers and
school staff in emergency life support skills so that they
may deliver the British Heart Foundation's Heartstart UK programme
to their pupils.

The project is supported by:
- St John Ambulance London
- London Ambulance Service
- British Heart Foundation
- London Medical schools
- Mayor of London
London NHS Primary Care Trusts in each borough provide money to
fund the project.
Schools are supported by medical students
from the five London medical schools who are trained by the London
Ambulance Service for this project.
Schools in London boroughs will receive the following free of
charge:
- Instructor training for staff in
ELS
from St John
Ambulance
- Supply cover for up to four teachers for initial teacher
instructor training days
- Medical student support for teachers
- Certificates for pupils
- Heartstart UK schools training pack
- British Heart Foundation grant for resuscitation equipment
It is never too early to start learning
ELS
and young
people in Primary and Secondary schools can learn to be
ready, willing and able to step in when the need
arises. Schools are an ideal environment in which to learn
ELS
within the
existing curriculum.
The survival rate of those who suffer a cardiac arrest outside
of hospital in London is 16% - with Saving Londoners’ Lives we aim
to increase this year on year.
