St John Ambulance in schools

First aid training for year 6 children

St John Ambulance believes that it is never too early to start learning first aid and that all children should leave school with these vital skills.

Darren Allcock is our schools' liaison officer and is available to come into schools and youth groups to deliver a range of courses including:

  • Young first aider
  • Emergency aid for appointed persons (schools)
  • Three 9's
  • Safety Zone - Working with the fire service,  the Nottinghamshire Police force, Road safety and Trading standards. This is aimed at year five and six children looking at danger situations and how to stay safe including basic first aid
  • Prison - Me - No Way! - Working with the prison service turning a school into a working prison for a day. Year 10 children get the experience of being a prisoner and are taught basic first aid including the recovery position.

His whole approach was very professional, yet friendly. He was a credit to St John Ambulance.

    Mrs S. Cotton

  • Awareness sessions - teaching the basics of how to deal with an unconscious casualty including the recovery position.
  • Guide and Scout Association first aid badges
