LINKS at Nottingham University

Nottingham LINKS

Volunteering, training, socialising, and community action are just a few of the opportunities that could be opened to you by volunteering with LINKS, the student section of St John Ambulance.

Getting involved

Our weekly training covers first aid issues and related topics. We also have guest trainers visiting us providing a wide range of training. We meet at 19.30 every Tuesday (term time) in LG19 of the Trent Building at the University of Nottingham main campus.

Your committee

President

Graham Garforth chair@nottslinks.sja.org.uk

Graham Garforth"I'm a final year Management student who is often found in swimming pool or sailing. I joined LINKS to develop my first aid experience and now I spend my time training and helping the other committee members. Get in touch with me about Amalfi/Duke of Edinburgh's Award and any indeed anything else - apparently I love emails!"

Vice President (& Stores Officer)

Becky Atkins stores@nottslinks.sja.org.uk

Becky Atkins"Hi, I'm Becky - Vice president for this year!  I'm a third year psychology student from Derbyshire.  I joined LINKS in my first year without any prior first aid knowledge and have since then enjoyed getting trained then out on duty saving lives! (or at least patching people up in the short term!). I'm doing my Duke of Edinburgh's award through LINKS so have been enjoying getting on with that. I'm into music, horse riding, and many other pursuits when I get the chance.  Being involved with running LINKS  has been a really exciting opportunity and this year promises to make us even bigger and better!"

Secretary

Treasurer

Alice Lelliott treasurer@nottslinks.sja.org.uk

Alice Lelliott"Hi, I'm Alice and I'm your treasurer for this year, so get to look after all of our money! I'm a second year medic and I joined LINKS at Freshers' Fayre last year. I'd had some first aid training in the past but St John Ambulance has given me the opportunity to get some official qualifications and put it into practice. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone out on duties over the summer and when meetings start again next year."

Training coordinator

Ben Kahane training@nottslinks.sja.org.uk

Ben Kahane

"Hello, I’m Ben your training co-ordinator. In a nutshell, my job is to get you guys trained so you can get  qualifications and go out on duties. I’m a first year Politics student and completely new to St John Ambulance (until a few months ago I barely knew that bizarre things like the recovery position even existed). Being a lazy social science student, I have lots of free time and I especially enjoy football, drinking and sleeping. I’m also a Special Constable with Notts Police. Remember as on most training courses there are a limited number of places, I will have to select certain people to go on these. Improve your chances by going on duties and most importantly going on socials!"

Public duties officer

Judith Hughes duty-officer@nottslinks.sja.org.uk

Judith Hughes

"Hi, I’m Judith your Public Duties Officer. I’m a first year studying Environmental Science. I joined St John Ambulance as a cadet four years ago where the opportunities that came my way inspired me to continue at LINKS. I really enjoy putting my first aid training into practice by going out on duty, and want to get you involved too. It’s a great way to get out and about to events you’d never normally go to, and I look forward to seeing you on duty soon!! In my spare time I play the viola in the University Philharmonia Orchestra and I’m also training for a 10K run! If you have any questions just email me."

Campus duties officer

Tom Manuel duty-officer@nottslinks.sja.org.uk

Tom Manuel

"Hey, I’m Tom and I am the campus duties officer for ’07-’08. I’ll be the person who constantly throws emails at ya’ll asking you to provide first aid cover at various on-campus events. I’m a third year Chemical Engineering student from London and I’ve been a member of LINKS since I first came to Nottingham University, though I have been with St John Ambulance since I was 14. Hope to see you soon, whether it’s out on duties or in our weekly meetings. Please feel free to email me with any questions."

Social secretary

Emma Knight social@nottslinks.sja.org.uk

Webmaster

Andreas Leidenroth webmaster@nottslinks.sja.org.uk

Andreas Leidenroth"Hi, I'm Andy, your webmaster. I'm a first year Biology student, and I joined LINKS last year. I've had some first aid training in the past, but it's only since I've joined LINKS that I've actually been able to go out and gain some practical experience. I also really enjoy the social side of it, since we're always having a good time at the meetings and you get to meet people from all different sorts of backgrounds and courses. Looking forward to seeing you on duty"
