Member on Duty

St John Ambulance members are volunteers. There are many advantages to volunteering with us including gaining new lifesaving skills, making new friends, various social events, new challenges and personal development.

At Wellington adult division we are very active in providing frist aid and ambulance aid at public events, we also have regular training and social activities. Whilst we always provide a professional service we also always have lots of fun in all we do.

Training

Most weeks our members attend training evenings, often in first aid, as well as using their first aid skills at public duties. This means that our members become very confident at first aid, giving them the skills needed to save lives and the confidence to act in an emergency.

St John is a really rewarding organisation to be in because it gives you a chance to meet lots of people, to get out into the community and to learn not just about first aid but other subjects too! The members are all really friendly and we have lots of fun on meeting nights!

As well as first aid and ambulance aid we regularly train in various other related skills, such as communication, care, handling techniques and resue methods. We also run large training exercises in real life environments.

Our members receive continuous training and their skills are always up to date with the latest protocols.

We're hoping to continue welcoming new members so that we can increase our activities in the local community, in our division and around Somerset.

We have members with different qualifications, from basic first aid to emergency ambulance attendants. Some of our members are also trained to drive ambulances.

Every volunteer is free to work towards as many or as few qualificaions as they wish. All members are fully supported to help them achieve the level that they wantn to.

Please feel free to visit any adult meeting to see what we do and if it may be for you.
