St John Ambulance volunteers in
Staffordshire provide vital first aid cover at a
huge variety of events across the county. Be that the
Hednesford Raceway, which attracts up to 3000 spectators, or the
Stoke Speedway where last year St John Ambulance volunteers treated
a number of casualties.
Local venues need our support and expertise to
ensure that in the event of illness or accident, casualties can be
treated quickly and efficiently
by our skilled and highly trained
members.
Stoke City Football Club is no exception. St
John Ambulance Staffordshire has a long relationship with the club,
having provided cover for over 50 years. We
provide an ambulance, first aid and medical services drawn from
several local Divisions.
With Stoke’s promotion to the Premier League, we now provide more volunteers to deal with the increase in spectators. All our volunteers are now trained in first aid and life saving skills and each season we undertake a series of training exercises at the ground.

Its not just sporting events where volunteers
put their training and experience into play. Social and cultural
venues such as theatres regularly ask St John Ambulance for
assistance. Without doubt the V Festival, held at Weston
Park, is the biggest event that St John Ambulance Staffordshire
covers. The massive music festival attracts over 50,000 people and
we deploy over 150 trained first aiders to ensure
visitors are safe.
Whilst bands play on the five stages, St
John Ambulance volunteers use their exceptional training, diligence
and experience to provide first aid to those that need it during
the three day event. Our crews are on hand to deal with
anything from dehydration to sunstroke, and in extreme cases to
prepare casualties for, and transport, to hospital.
