We are the difference

First aid volunteers at football

On April 18th 2010, Chichester division supported our county in providing first aid cover to the first ever Brighton Marathon.

Chichester sent a strong team of 12 members including first aiders, controllers and nurses to assist cover for the 26.2 mile event throughout the city.

Planning for the event took two years, and on the day, over 300 volunteers from St John Ambulance lined the streets of Brighton ensuring that the event was safe and enjoyable.

Almost 7,600 runners started off their challenge in 5° temperatures, which slowly warmed to 15°, causing problems for some runners. Many injuries were treated at the event by our volunteers, allowing them to complete their challenge to the finish line.

We have together, done something really great today and have truly made a difference!

The number of patients admitted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, were minimal highlighting how effective the work of St John Ambulance and the Brighton Marathon organisers was.

Chichester is proud to have supported their county colleagues throughout this event and look forward to many more.
