Bleeding and shock - resources and lesson plans

This course module is designed to help students understand what to look out for and what to do when somebody is suffering from severe bleeding and/or shock.

Lesson overview – bleeding and shock

In this lesson, students will learn to:

  • • recognise and respond appropriately when someone has a severe bleed
  • • know what to do if there is an object embedded in the wound
  • • understand the risk of cross infection and know how to minimise this risk
  • • recognise and respond appropriately if the casualty is in shock
  • • check for further injuries and be aware of the signs of internal bleeding.

The teaching resources include a lesson plan with suggested activities and a poster.
